GRANITE RIDGE TRAIL - Nova Scotia

Located only a short drive from Halifax Metro, the Granite Ridge Trail provides
easy access to the White Like Wilderness area, one of only 31 Wilderness areas
designated by the province of Nova Scotia for preservation because of its
ecological beauty and complete and undisturbed ecosystem.
The rugged 350 million year old Granite Ridge landscape was shaped in part by the
shifting of glaciers during the last ice age 10,000 years ago. These glacial basins,
hills and ridges can be seen today as clear lakes and majestic views.
The Granite Ridge Trail begins and ends on the route of what was affectionately
known as "The Blueberry Express", an early 20th century rail line. The area is
rugged and challenging, but the rewards are well worth the effort - majestic views
over the lakes and granite outcrops of the Wilderness area, and across the sweet and
pristine Musquodoboit River. The trail winds its way over 17.9 kilometers of the
great outdoors, crossing brooks, passing through stands of old growth hemlock forest
and connecting many a spectacular view.
