For a list of the 10 participating choirs and location details, please visit "The Choirs" page.

WHY is the Ontario Sings program needed?
Many studies have found choral singing can have a positive impact on youth and the community.

Chorus America, the national service organization for North American choruses, recently released a report that stated choral singers are "far more likely to be involved in charity work", are "more aware of other people's life experiences" and believe their singing "is a way of giving back to their communities."

Ontario Sings aims to promote and encourage youth choral singing in hopes of contributing to the cultural, social and economic well-being of communities within the province of Ontario.

What skills will Ontario Sings foster and how are these important to the community?
Choral singing combines the joy of singing with discipline of learning and the art of performing.

The Conference Board of Canada has stated that "imagination and engagement are required in the workplace - attributes that are nurtured through the arts."

"This affects job creation, which increases property values." The Board also contends that "extensive arts education indirectly influences city pride and prestige as well as the development of community networks."

What opportunities will Ontario Sings create for the participating choirs?
As a province-wide program involving thousands of people, Ontario Sings will garner significant media attention that will benefit the program's mandate, the participating choirs and the host cities profile. This increased exposure will create opportunities for soliciting support for Ontario Sings and promoting the value of these choirs and the cities' cultural and tourism attractions.

Is there an existing interest in this type of program?
According to Choirs Ontario, there are well over 300 choirs in Ontario involving more than 20,000 singers. Each choir presents on average three concerts a year to a total audience of more than half a million people.

Choral music also has the highest number of organizations of any performing arts discipline and children/youth choirs are the fastest growing segment.

Who is Ontario Sings?
Ontario Sings is a not-for-profit organization, overseen by director Tom Fiore and fulfilled through the cooperation of Choir Directors/Conductors, youth singers and hundreds of volunteers across Ontario. For more details, please visit our "Contacts" page.

"Music has charms to soothe a savage breast
To soften rocks, or bend a knotted oak."
~William Congreve
