Guelph Youth Singers (GYS), now in its 13th season, was founded 1991 to provide children and youth
with an opportunity to experience a professional level of musicianship. The four treble choirs in the
organization are: Choir I, a training choir of children aged 6 and up; Choir II, a more advanced training
choir of children and youth aged 9 and up; Choir III, a choir for singers who have superior singing and
music reading skills, aged 10 and up; and Choir IV, an advanced ensemble for young women aged 15 and up.
Highlights of this season include a co-production with the Guelph Symphony Orchestra and the Guelph
Chamber Choir, performing Britten's St. Nicholas Cantata and Rutter's Brother Heinrich's Christmas;
singing under Simon Carrington at the Mississauga Children's Choir festival; hosting eight other children's
choirs in our own junior children's choir festival in March; and hosting a choir from Coquitlam, B.C. and
traveling to visit them in a tour in May, 2004.
All four choirs of GYS perform annually in the Guelph Kiwanis festival, and have distinguished themselves
at the Provincial and National levels of the National Festival Association Competition, winning provincial
awards in 1999 thru to 2002, and national first prize awards in 1999 and 2001.
